Here are the top five stories in Concord today:
- At their meeting today, the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors will hear an appeal of the planning commission's approval of a 144-unit residential subdivision just outside of Martinez. The Bayview Estates Residential Project would include single family dwellings as well as open space and a private park. (Claycord.com)
- At their meeting today, the Antioch city council will decide whether to seek funds from the State of California Homekey Program for housing opportunities for homeless at the Executive Inn on E 18th Street in the City of Antioch. If approved the City would pledge a 5-year commitment of $12.3 million in support of the project. (East County Today)
- The Concord Historical Society will dedicate the Dave Brubeck stage at their May 27 fundraiser. His sons, Chris and Dan Brubeck, will be on hand to help with the celebration, playing some of their own original tunes as well as some of their father's classics. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with drinks and hors d'oeuvres at the Historical Society's Event Center, 1928 Clayton Road, Concord. - The Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton usually delivers a remarkable quality and variety of performances, and this year's Big O Tires Concert Series promises much of the same. Kicking off the shows will be R&B artist Ginuwine on opening night, June 17. The rest of the first weekend features Neon Trees (best known for their 2011 banger "Everybody Talks") on June 18 and L.A.vation on Father's Day, the self-proclaimed "world's greatest tribute to U2." The fair also features 38 Special (June 22) and Blue Öyster Cult (July 7) on the schedule. Rounding out the stacked lineup are country star Clay Walker (June 24), Oakland's own Sheila E. (June 30), hip-hop artist Everlast (July 1), Con Funk Shun (an R&B/funk band with origins in Vallejo) on July 8 and closing out the series on July 10, Mexican technobanda group Banda Machos. Each show runs from 8-9:15 p.m. Tickets for reserved seats went on sale starting this Friday online. (danvillesanramon.com/ subscription may be required)
