- On January 18, the County Board of Supervisors adopted an All-Electric Ordinance (Ordinance 2022-02) requiring all new construction of residential, hotel, office, or retail buildings to be all-electric. As of April 1, applications for building permits for new construction of any residential, retail, office or hotel building(s) must be designed to be all-electric (no natural gas allowed). - Supporters of Measure F — an effort to preserve the 297-acre Alhambra Highlands area of Martinez — have garnered enough signatures to get the measure in front of the city's voters on the June primary ballot. The City Council approved a developer's plan to build homes on 109 hillside lots on 72 acres of the site more than a decade ago. A movement to preserve the area picked up steam amid construction delays. For more information on the June 7 primary election, go to www.cocovote.us. (Claycord.com)
- A new module for inmates who have mental illnesses has opened at the Martinez Detention Facility. This follows an 18-month remodel of a module which previously held 52 inmates. Now, it will house only 24 inmates who have mental illnesses. The new module has incorporated the latest technology and best practices for detention facilities. This includes state of the art software for managing the module, furnishings that will help prevent suicides and a design that allows for greater observation of the inmates. The new module also uses a biophilic design to create a calm environment, reduce stress, and is more conducive to therapy. (News 24/680)
- Last week, 42 classified employees from San Ramon Valley Unified School District were honored and recognized as their school or department's 2022 Classified Employee of the Year. The list of honorees included SRVUSD custodians, instructional assistants, paraprofessionals, clerical and technical support staff, maintenance and groundskeepers, transportation workers, crossing guards, food service workers, campus security, and district office staff. SRVUSD's District Classified Employee of the Year was announced during the ceremony as Jennifer Rhee, Library Media Coordinator at Tassajara Hills Elementary School in Danville. (News 24/680)
