Here are the top stories in Concord today:
- This little dude is amazing! Or, rather, "ama-Zane"! Zane is 5 years old and his bowling ball throw has a fierce spin. He's been showing them how it's done at Clayton Valley Bowl in Concord for all of a couple of months, and he's already catching the eye of the regulars. His best game to date? A 194! How does he do it? The best anyone can tell, he just has "it," whatever "it" is. Catch him in this video, or better yet, head out to Clayton Valley Bowl. He's there every day! (NBC Southern California)
- Nuhad Levasseur, owner of In The Light Voice Studio, which she moved from Antioch to Georgia last year, is battling cancer. But her load was lightened recently when 14 of her students honored her with a music video. "This video is dedicated to Nuhad, a woman who has changed us all for the better. Merry Christmas!" they wrote. (Antioch Herald)
- We just made it through some nasty weather, but, unfortunately, it doesn't look like we're quite done yet. Contra Costa County could see an additional 2 to 3 inches of rain before the new year, according to the National Weather Service. (Claycord.com)
- The public came out in strong support of the couple who was targeted in what police are calling a hate crime in San Ramon on Christmas Eve. "Honestly, I'm very overwhelmed by the support," said Moraga's Arine Kim. As an example of the support they're receiving, when they were in line at the In-N-Out Monday, another customer paid for their meal. The East Bay really does have some great folks living here! (CBS SF Bay Area via MSN)
- Thankfully, Mother Nature decided to do a lot of her work in the night and early morning hours on Tuesday in San Ramon. The downpour caused the roof to collapse at the Big 5 Sporting Goods store there, but the collapse happened at 5:43 a.m., when nobody was in the store. San Ramon Police Lt. Tami Williams said Big 5 was closed at that time, "as were the surrounding stores in the strip mall near Interstate 680. They included a Rite Aid drug store, a Sprouts market, and Leslie's Pool Supplies." (San Francisco Chronicle via MSN)

From my notebook:
- "Contra Costa County Library is excited to launch the third Community Reads for Kids featuring Guts by Raina Telgemeier." Several Community Reads events will take place both virtually and in person in the second half of January. Read the book and then check out the events here.
- "CERT Basic Training teaches you disaster preparedness and response skills including damage mitigation, fire suppression, light search and rescue and basic first aid. Walnut Creek CERT is conduction training from February 4 through March 18."
- Do you know how Orinda got its name? I do. And you can find out, too, along with lots of other little historic tidbits in this article from the city.
