CONCORD, CA — Federal agents and local police will collect unused medications this weekend, offering East Bay residents a straightforward way to clear out medicine cabinets, dispose of the contents safely, and reduce the risk of drug misuse.
The Drug Enforcement Administration will run its 30th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Concord Police Department’s community room. The event allows people to anonymously dispose of expired or unwanted prescriptions without questions or paperwork.
Officials say the effort aims to prevent accidental poisonings and keep medications out of the wrong hands, particularly as unused drugs often linger in homes.
Collectors will accept tablets, capsules, patches and most prescription medications, including liquids if they remain sealed in original containers. They will not take syringes, sharps or illicit drugs.
Authorities urge residents to use the drop-off to safely remove medications that no longer serve a medical need, reducing risks across the community.
