CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Investigators are asking the public to help restore a name to the woman who died in a fatal train strike on a quiet stretch of the Carquinez Strait.
Her identity may hinge on a single marker — a broken heart tattoo on her inner left wrist.
The Contra Costa County Coroner’s office said a train struck the woman on Feb. 16 in Port Costa.
The woman was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators later ruled her death a suicide.
Despite weeks of follow-up, the Coroner’s Division has not identified the woman, who carried no identification.
Officials describe her as a white adult female with brown hair and hazel eyes, standing 5-feet 4-inches, and weighing about 171 pounds.
Investigators point to a distinct marking: the small broken heart tattoo on the inside of her left wrist. She wore a black pullover top, black-and-grey plaid pants, and red-and-white Nike athletic shoes when she died.
Anyone with information about the woman's identity should contact the Coroner’s Division at (925) 313-2850.
