Concord Officers Carry 'Flame Of Hope'

Police officers and city staff escorted the Special Olympics Flame of Hope before handing off the torch.

CONCORD, CA — Crowds along city streets watched police officers and city staff Concord to Pleasant Hill To Walnut Creek run beside the Special Olympics Flame of Hope as the Law Enforcement Torch Run pushed through downtowns on a route across the region.

Concord and Pleasant Hill police passed the torch to Walnut Creek officers and city staff, who carried the flame roughly 3.5 miles from Pleasant Hill into Broadway Plaza. There officers handed the flame to Danville police to continue the relay.

The annual Torch Run brings together law enforcement agencies from across California to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics programs that support athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Officers, city employees, and supporters lined portions of the route as runners moved the flame through busy commercial corridors and neighborhood streets.

Officials praised the cities' runners for carrying the torch through the community and helping spotlight the athletes and programs the event supports each year.
