CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — An early-morning shooting led to a tense SWAT standoff involving a man who lived in the same neighborhood as the victim.
Police responded at about 6:34 a.m. to the 1100 block of West 9th Street in Antioch after reports of gunfire outside a residence.
When police arrived, they found a 37-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers provided emergency aid until firefighters and paramedics arrived.
The victim was taken to a local trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries and remains in stable condition, according to Antioch Police Department Lt. Gary Lowther.
Investigators identified a suspect who was inside a nearby home. Officers established a perimeter and called in the Antioch SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiations Team.
After several hours, the suspect, identified as 51-year-old Carl Griggs of Antioch, surrendered without incident, Lowther said.
Police believe Griggs and the victim knew each other, but investigators have not released a motive.
The Antioch Police Department Investigations Bureau has taken over the case, which is being investigated as an assault with a firearm.
Anyone with information should contact the Antioch Police Department Dispatch Center at (925) 778-2441.
Additional details will be released as the investigation continues, Lowther said.
