CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Burglars stole donated Chromebooks, laptops, livestream equipment, and other electronic devices, dealing a major setback to free educational programs that serve children, youth, and families in Contra Costa County.
The break-in happened between 4 p.m. June 18 and 6 p.m. June 19 at the RR Learning Center & RR Ministries, according to a statement from the Antioch organization.
Among the items stolen were Chromebooks donated by the Antioch Rotary Club.
The devices were used daily in the nonprofit's tutoring program, youth job readiness program, homework support services, reading intervention activities, and educational workshops.
Organization leaders said the theft affects resources that help students complete assignments, improve reading skills, build confidence, and prepare for future opportunities. All services offered by the organization are provided free of charge.
The burglars also took livestream equipment, personal laptops, and additional electronic devices, according to the statement.
In the aftermath of the burglary, the organization reported attempts to access financial and communication platforms, including Venmo, PayPal, email, and banking-related accounts. Staff members said they immediately secured their systems, filed a police report, and began working with law enforcement.
RR Learning Center & RR Ministries is asking residents who were near the site around the time when the burglary happened to contact the organization or local police if they saw any activity out of the ordinary, have information about the theft, or become aware of anyone attempting to sell multiple Chromebooks or other electronic equipment.
Despite the loss, organization leaders said they remain committed to providing free services and support for the community members who rely on their programs.
