CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A favorite local family restaurant is closed indefinitely after a devastating overnight fire caused extensive damage to the building.
The owners of Brother Sister by Vic's on Pacheco Boulevard in Martinez said everyone was safely accounted for and credited alert neighbors with quickly calling the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, helping prevent an even larger disaster.
"Although there was already significant damage caused by the fire, the water and additional mitigation" added to the destruction, owners Rosie and JB Morello wrote in a statement posted on Facebook about 12 hours after the fire.
The couple also praised firefighters for their response.
"We appreciate the quick, professional and empathetic work of Contra Costa Fire," the statement said.
The owners thanked customers and supporters who reached out in the hours after the fire with phone calls, text messages, and personal visits. "As you can imagine, we will be closed indefinitely," they wrote.
The family said the restaurant has always focused on serving local families and expressed gratitude for the community's support over the years.
The announcement prompted an outpouring of messages from longtime patrons, many recalling birthdays, anniversaries, and family gatherings celebrated at the restaurant.
One regular customer wrote: "Rosie & JB, my heart goes out to you. While the fire may have damaged the building, it can never take away the countless wonderful memories made at Vic's/Brothers Sisters with family and friends over the years. Thank you for giving us a place to celebrate so many special moments. We're looking forward to making many more memories with you when the time comes."
No timeline has been announced for rebuilding or reopening.
