CONCORD, CA — Contra Costa County workforce officials are inviting residents to explore a free training program that prepares participants for careers in the Bay Area's growing maritime industry.
The Marine Trades Skills Training Program will host information sessions in Concord on Thursday and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Pre-registration is required.
The 10-week program provides a training stipend while participants develop practical, hands-on skills sought by employers in shipbuilding, ship repair, manufacturing, and related industries.
Participants receive instruction in welding, painting, machining, and carpentry while earning industry-recognized certifications and working directly with employers looking to hire skilled workers.
The program also includes career coaching, job placement assistance, and opportunities to build professional connections with companies throughout the region's maritime sector.
The Bay Area's maritime economy supports jobs through ports, shipyards, ferry operators, marine construction companies, and defense contractors. Demand remains for skilled tradespeople who can build, maintain, and repair commercial vessels and waterfront infrastructure.
Program organizers encourage veterans, women, English language learners, justice-involved individuals, people with disabilities, immigrants, and others facing barriers to employment to attend an information session and learn whether the program is a good fit.
Upcoming information sessions are scheduled for:
• Thursday, July 23, from 10:30 a.m. to noon in Concord.
• Friday, July 31, from 10:30 a.m. to noon in Concord.
