CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A man suspected in the death of a 77-year-old man who died days after an altercation at a phone vendor stand has been arrested.
Camari Coleman, 23, was arrested Tuesday in Brentwood, according to the Antioch Police Department.
The Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office charged Coleman with murder and elder abuse resulting in the death of 77-year-old Paul Lawson.
The case started with an incident on June 9, when officers responded to reports of a battery at a phone vendor stand outside the Contra Costa County Employment and Human Services building at 4545 Delta Fair Blvd.
Officers found Lawson on the ground, unable to move. Paramedics transported him to a local hospital, where he died June 13.
Police said an argument between Lawson and employees at the phone vendor stand escalated into a physical fight.
Witnesses gave investigators conflicting accounts of what happened. Some said Lawson stumbled over a chair, while others reported he may have been pushed during the confrontation.
