CONCORD, CA — Mt. Diablo Unified students have already returned to classrooms, putting Concord families among the earliest in the region to start the 2026-27 school year.
The first day was Aug. 6, according to the district's current calendar.
Next, the Board of Education meets Wednesday from 6 to 9:30 p.m., giving parents their first board meeting after students returned.
Another board meeting follows Aug. 26, also from 6 to 9:30 p.m. The district encourages residents to attend and participate in educational affairs.
Parents also have campus-specific Back-to-School Nights approaching.
Highlands Elementary scheduled its TK/K Back-to-School Night for Thursday, Aug. 13. Bancroft Elementary plans a Grades 1-5 Back-to-School Night Aug. 19, while Highlands has another event for Grades 1-5 and MAPS Aug. 25.
The district's Community Advisory Committee also meets Aug. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Concord families making larger back-to-school purchases can also find Costco Wholesale at 2400 Monument Blvd.
Families shopping for notebooks, backpacks, clothing, and smaller classroom supplies should compare local and online prices before making a special trip.
Walmart's 2026 back-to-school campaign says it is offering its lowest prices on essential school supplies since 2019, while its online school section lets families shop by grade level.
