Wrong-way driver fleeing police causes head-on collision on Bay Area freeway (mercurynews.com) — A wrong-way driver fleeing Contra Costa sheriff's deputies caused a chaotic head-on collision on Highway 4 near Concord Saturday evening, temporarily shutting all eastbound lanes between Highway 242 and Willow Pass Road. Several vehicles were struck, one driver suffered minor injuries, and both the fleeing driver and a passenger were arrested as traffic backups rippled through the Concord area before lanes reopened around 7 p.m.
3. Blue Angels roar back over San Francisco after weather conditions threaten Fleet Week show (kioncentralcoast.com) — A Concord family was among thousands thrilled to see the Blue Angels finally roar over San Francisco on Saturday after fog and wind nearly grounded Fleet Week shows again. With clearer skies expected, today's air show is set to return at noon, with the Blue Angels scheduled to fly at 3 p.m., giving Concord residents another chance to enjoy the spectacle.
4. Richmond man convicted of forcibly raping two women sentenced to 169 years to life (contracostaherald.com) — One of the two brutal assaults that led to a Richmond man's 169-years-to-life sentence happened at a Concord motel, with Concord police later helping build the case. Prosecutors say the repeat offender cut off his parole monitor, then kidnapped and raped a woman he knew, before attacking another woman months later. Officials are using the case to highlight domestic violence resources available to Concord and county residents.
