CONTRA COSTA, CA — A Contra Costa County women's committee will debate whether the Women's Public Advocate Academy should focus on young women or include participants of all ages as commissioners prepare outreach, recruit trainers, and review applications.
The Contra Costa Commission for Women and Girls' Legislation Committee will review the academy's working document, which the full commission approved in July, and examine program materials and contact lists assigned for completion by Nov. 5.
The committee will identify unfinished work and coordinate outreach, applications, trainers, and speaker panels for a Nov. 20 deadline. Academy applications are due Dec. 10.
The committee will also review cohort selection, training, the full-day academy, capstone projects, and youth participation in the Board of Supervisors Women's Day celebration.
Beyond academy planning, commissioners will review legislation affecting women and girls and identify matters that warrant continued monitoring or possible commission action. Members may vote on academy recommendations and advocacy priorities for the full commission, then confirm assignments, deadlines, and follow-up responsibilities.
The committee will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at 3338 Mt. Diablo Blvd. in Lafayette. The public can also attend through Zoom.
Members of the public who wish to speak through Zoom can raise their hands in the app or type in the chat. Written public comments on agenda items may be submitted by email at least one full workday before the meeting.
People who need disability accommodations should contact staff at least 72 hours before the meeting. Contacts include the Women's Commission chair at cccwomenscommission@gmail.com and Chrystine Robbins at Chrystine.Robbins@cao.cccounty.us.
