- An accident at a construction site in Walnut Creek claimed the life of one worker on Monday. The construction accident occurred around 10 a.m. on Del Hombre Lane, just east of the Pleasant Hill Bart Station. Crews from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District were sent to a report of a man struck and killed by a gravel truck. According to authorities, the worker was acting as a flagger when he was run over by the truck. Cal/OSHA is conducting an investigation into this incident. (Concord News Journal)
- On Monday, Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe held a press conference to announce a new hiring incentive that would provide hiring bonuses and down payment assistance on a home in an effort to attract and retain Antioch Police Department police officers. The police department currently has 102 officers on the books and is allowed to hire up to 115 officers. Under the mayor's plan, the police department could grow to 125 officers. (East County Today)
- In response to the lockdown of Deer Valley High School on Wednesday, March 30, Antioch Unified School District responded on Saturday, April 2 saying, in part, "Around 2:30 pm that day, a parent from a nearby school called the school and reported that a young adult or teenage males were running towards DVHS wherein at least one weapon was reported. We immediately called dispatch and were informed that there was no need to lock down. However, out of an abundance of caution, I instructed the school to lock down until we could assess the situation." There was also a report of firecrackers in the neighborhood at about the same time, which caused some confusion about the lockdown. (Antioch Herald)

- We're going to stay in the East Bay, but travel out of Contra Costa County for this one, but it is such a unique support opportunity, I wanted to highlight it. On National Siblings Day, April 10, California Sibs, a community for adult siblings of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities based in Emeryville, will gather online for members to share personal experiences with their siblings — how their siblings have contributed to their lives, and how they use media to highlight their unique sibling relationships in films, on stage, podcasts, social media, television and news. Guests will talk about their experiences as filmmakers, actors, podcasters, journalists, and advocates, and personally about their lives as siblings of people with disabilities. Where should you invest as a Concord resident with a $149,000 nest egg? Thanks to a change in the legal code, there's a new investment Concord residents need to know about. In fact, Bloomberg asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now and many of them chose it.
This may surprise you, but it's fine art.
Growing your nest egg with art isn't new. Wealthy families like the Rockefellers have done it for centuries.
Here's why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
Translation: Art could be one of the best investments for uncertain times.
Luckily for you, we found Masterworks. This revolutionary platform lets you invest in art by Warhol, Monet, Picasso without spending millions.
The best part? Anyone from your area can skip their waitlist*.
