Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. It's National Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Week. In response, the Concord Police are going to be out in force looking for DUI drivers from now until the new year. "The Concord Police Department encourages everyone to stay in for the night or have a 'go safely' game plan by scheduling a ride or designating a sober driver if you plan to consume alcohol."   2. State Assemblymember Tim Grayson wants you to know about a couple of new laws that will go into effect in the new year in California. One that he helped author will help fast-track certain housing developments. He also wants you to know about legislation that will help get books into the hands of California youth, and an environmentally friendly bill around making lawn replacement easier. (Pioneer Publishers)
  3. Car burglars are making a mess in Lafayette and Pleasant Hill. They're smashing car windows to get what they want. "There are multiple reports of at least two sets of thieves at work, making frequent and repeated hits in Lafayette and Pleasant Hill and other areas likely to have what they seek." Police are warning citizens not to leave valuables in plain sight in their cars in the 24/680 corridor. (News 24/680)
  4. Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe had a DUI hearing last Tuesday. According to a witness in the courtroom, the mayor's attorney plead no contest on his behalf. "Judge Rebecca C. Hardie found Thorpe guilty and sentenced him to three years court probation and two nights in jail with credit for one night served. The second can be spent picking up litter." (Antioch Herald)
  5. A vehicle vs bicycle accident was reported just after 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Diablo Boulevard and Moraga Road in Lafayette on Thursday. A male cyclist sustained serious injuries. The crash is under investigation. (News 24/680)

  • "Concord is seeking applicants to serve on its newly created Working Group for the Homeless Strategic Plan. The Working Group will assist the City as it begins developing its Homeless Strategic Plan in 2023. Applications for this recruitment are due to the City Clerk by Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, at 5:00 p.m." (City of Concord, California via Facebook)
  • Check out a picture of the area around the Galindo Home back when it was built in 1856. "The home still stands in the heart of downtown Concord, and it's one of the stops on [Visit Concord's] local Historical Walking Tour." (Visit Concord via Instagram)
  • Several Contra Costa Library locations will be celebrating "Noon Year's Eve" this year. Head out around noon on December 31 to find events like dance parties, story time and even acrobatic penguins!
