  2. Contra Costa County's 50th annual Teacher of the Year Gala was held Thursday night at the Lesher Center in Walnut Creek. During the event, the County Superintendent of Schools Lynn Mackey announced the county Teacher of the Year winners. Chavonta Edington of Diablo Vista Middle School (San Ramon Valley Unified School District) and Natasha Paul of Mt. Diablo High School (Mt. 3. BART's mask mandate is set to expire on October 1. So far, there have been no indications that they will extend the mandate again, as they did on July 28 at their board meeting. However, once the mandate expires, BART will strongly encourage riders to wear masks in the system and free masks will still be available. (Claycord.com)
  4. A word to the wise, if you are a convicted felon carrying a rifle in your vehicle, drive carefully! That's a lesson that a convicted felon out of Oakland learned in Walnut Creek on Thursday night when he was pulled over for a minor violation. The officer, as he approached the vehicle, saw a rifle inside the car. The suspect, who was not identified, was arrested for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a large capacity magazine, possession of a firearm without a serial number, felony probation violation, possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of an assault weapon, and other firearms related charges, according to Walnut Creek Police. 5. Two Antioch residents have been identified as the perpetrators of two incidents that occurred at the Bank of America located at 6261 Lone Tree Way in Brentwood. A woman said she was accosted and her purse and wallet were stolen. The suspect jumped into a nearby car where a getaway driver waited, and sped away. Upon review of surveillance video, police determined that these suspects were responsible for a similar robbery that occurred at the same location on Sept.16, 2022, at approximately 2:25 p.m. One of the suspects was identified as former Antioch High School quarterback Delvon Hasain Hasan. His accomplice was identified as Dioni Tamira Patton. Both were safely taken into custody. Brentwood police gave a shout out to Concord PD and Antioch PD for their assistance. (Antioch Herald)
