Here are the top five stories today in Concord:
- BART will run standard Friday service but with an extended closing time on New Year's Eve. For those celebrating in downtown San Francisco, the last East Bay-bound train running through downtown San Francisco will leave around 1:30 a.m., and the last southbound train heading toward Millbrae will run through downtown San Francisco at 2:10 a.m. Parking is free after 3 p.m. on Friday. You can also leave your car overnight if necessary. Parking is free on weekends. (Claycord.com)
- Despite a full year operating in pandemic conditions, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) has many 2021 accomplishments to tout. From improved rider experience to infrastructure upgrades, they have worked to be a good transportation alternative as well as a good community partner. - At 5:32 pm Tuesday, the Antioch Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at the CVS Pharmacy on Lone Tree Way in the City of Antioch. Police received a call regarding two females who entered the store with hammers and headed to the alcohol section of the store. They then proceeded to use the hammers to break the glass and steal $2,500 worth of alcohol. A short time later, the two suspects were located in the City of Pittsburg where, with the help of Pittsburg PD, both females were taken into custody. Some of the alcohol was recovered. - To encourage safe travel for those who are out on the road, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will conduct a Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) starting at 6:01 p.m. today through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2022. With the focus of the New Year's operation to identify and remove impaired drivers from the road, the CHP will have all available personnel on patrol, including Drug Recognition Evaluators to conduct evaluations of suspected impaired drivers.
