Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. BART's governing board voted to support Senate Bill 827, expanding the authority of BART's inspector general; however, the board took issue with one part of the bill. "The board... called for the removal of the bill's criminal penalties over concerns about criminalization." State lawmakers are scheduled to discuss the bill, introduced by Senator Steve Glazer of Orinda, at the Senate Transportation Committee meeting in April. (Claycord.com)
  2. At its March 14 meeting the Concord City Council discussed questions to be used to select the next master developer for the former Concord Naval Weapons Station. This will be the third time the council chooses a developer for the site. "What is important in this third attempt is that we find a consensus both on the dais amongst the council and amongst the broader community," said Guy Bjerke, director of development and base reuse. Once the questions are finalized, a request for quote (RFQ) timeline is expected to be brought to the council in late April or early May. (Pioneer Publishers)
  3. A suspect who allegedly burglarized two optometry businesses and attempted to burglarize a third was caught Friday night. After the second burglary, police were on to him. They began watching optometry businesses in the area, and when the suspect arrived at Diablo Valley Optometric Group, police were ready for him. After a brief chase, "The suspect was arrested for multiple charges related to burglary and resisting arrest, and given a ride to the Martinez Detention Facility." (Contra Costa News)
  4. A man was arrested in the stabbing of a woman and her two children in Antioch on March 18. The stabbing also resulted in the death of the woman's unborn child. Bartley Hall, accused of the stabbings, was arrested after a chase that ended in Suisun City in Solano County. He is "charged with murder for the death of the baby, as well as three counts of attempted murder against the woman and her children. He also faces charges of child abuse, domestic abuse, fleeing from police, driving the wrong way in traffic, and misdemeanor hit-and-run, according to the District Attorney's Office." He remains in jail with bail in excess of $5 million. (Claycord.com)
