Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. Miguel Jimenez Alejandre, of Bay Point, was convicted of first-degree murder in the killing of his supervisor on May 12, 2021. David Nunez Sanchez, 42, of Pittsburg, was reported missing when he failed to return from a job site in Marin. Police found his body "deliberately hidden from view in the estimation of officers on the scene," according to authorities. (Concord Patch)
  2. Two juveniles were arrested in Antioch on Monday for "charges related to robbery and assault with a deadly weapon." Police responded to a 911 call of the shooting and, upon arrival, ascertained that the victim was shot in the commission of a robbery. Through involvement with witnesses who saw the suspects in their yards, police were able to apprehend the juvenile suspects and retrieve a weapon thought to have been used in the commission of the crime. (Claycord.com)
  3. Pittsburg Mayor Shanelle Scales-Preston has the additional role of Chairman of the Board of Directors for local electricity provider, MCE. She became chairman on January 10, 2023, "after the retirement of long-serving Richmond Mayor, Tom Butt." Scales-Preston was raised in Pittsburg, and graduated from Pittsburg High, so she knows the area and the challenges well. (Contra Costa News)
  4. The storm that ravaged the area in January left a mess to clean up, and Contra Costa Public Works is concerned about the budget challenges of all that cleanup. "The series of storms that hit California has caused an estimated $43.9 million in damages." The Contra Costa Board of Supervisors heard the budget assessment at its meeting yesterday. (Contra Costa News)
  5. Did you know that the son of burlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee lives in Orinda? He does! He sat down with The Orinda News to discuss his upbringing, his discovery in his late teens that his father was Otto Preminger, and his favorite memories of his famous mom. It's fascinating stuff!
