The fire was reported around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Update:

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that claimed the life of a male victim this afternoon in Bay Point, an official with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said. Fire crews responded just after 4 p.m. to the 400 block of Shore Road, Fire Marshal Robert Marshall said.

He said crews arrived to find heavy fire coming from a shed that was adjacent to a residence. Several propane tanks and acetylene gas used in welding torches was also burning and caused some explosions as the gas burned in the fire, Marshall said.

Firefighters concentrated their efforts on extinguishing the blaze and making sure it didn’t spread to the house, he said. Marshall said as soon as firefighters were able to approach the shed and extinguish the blaze, they located the body of a male victim. Further identifying information was not available this evening, Marshall said.

The fire was extinguished in roughly 20 minutes but not before it had burned the shed, along with some fencing and a small patch of grass.
