Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. A woman was shot at a San Ramon apartment complex on Saturday. Police arrested a Concord man in connection with the case. Forest T. McCaskill was arrested in Anaheim on charges of "Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Attempted Murder. McCaskill is currently in custody in Southern California." (KRON4)
  2. The East Bay Regional Park District will receive a grant of $7 million toward the purchase of the Finley Road Ranch. The property is off Finley Road at the western edge of Morgan Territory Regional Preserve near Mt. Diablo. "Acquisition of the Finley Road Ranch property will preserve forever one of the largest remaining pristine open spaces adjacent to Mount Diablo State Park," said Park District Board President Dennis Waespi.   3. A victim of an opioid overdose at the Concord BART station received one of the 10 doses of NARCAN given by BART police at several stations in the last five days. The Concord subject woke up after the dose was given and refused further treatment. (Claycord.com)
  4. In an open letter published by The Pioneer, Concord Mayor Laura Hoffmeister details the staff recommendations for spending $7 million allocated to "city projects, infrastructure, public safety and special events" from funds Concord received from ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act).
  5. A body was found Monday in the lake at Los Medanos College-Pittsburg Campus. Tuesday, authorities said the body was that of an approximately-25-year-old male. No foul play appeared to be involved, according to authorities. The identity of the male was not confirmed. (Contra Costa News)

  • Have you seen Selfie WRLD at Broadway Plaza, where The Gap used to be? It's a bunch of venues that are supposed to be perfect for selfies and posting to Instagram. If you think that's cool, go now! Speculation is that it's a pop-up, just renting the space until the landlords can find a permanent tenant. (Beyondthecreek.com)
  • "Learn how the library supports adult literacy and how you can make a difference in someone's life as a volunteer literacy tutor. Talk with our literacy librarians and enjoy some light refreshments." The Meet Project Second Chance event takes place at the Pleasant Hill Library on March 20.
