Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. It's going to be cold and damp this week, Concord! And, not just for us, but for all of the Bay Area and surrounding counties. Jack Frost will be nipping at your nose for the first half of the week and then we have a couple of shots at seeing some significant precipitation for the end of the week. "It looks like a good rainmaker," said Dalton Behringer, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service. (SFGATE)
  2. The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is making the decision today as to whether the Seven Hills Ranch Development near Heather Farm Park will go forward. The developer wants to build a senior residential care facility on the property — and remove more than 350 trees. The meeting is at 9:00 a.m., and you can join online at www.contracosta.ca.gov. (Claycord.com)
  3. Did your car get "slimed" by white ash in Martinez? The Martinez Refining Company is taking responsibility for the mess and offering free car washes. "'We have the guy from the oil refinery coming and he made a big purchase and bought quite a few car washes to take care of the community,' Rachell Julien with Autopia Car Wash said." The company says the dust, from a flare-up at the refinery, is non-toxic, but county health officials advise anyone with respiratory issues to check with their doctor. (ABC7News)
  4. A motorcycle rider was pronounced deceased on scene on Crockett Boulevard on Saturday. The crash did not have any known witnesses, but police determined that the rider was going southbound when he collided with the guardrail and was ejected from the motorcycle. "It has not yet been determined if alcohol or drug influence was a factor in this crash." (News 24/680)
  5. Professional and amateur bartenders donated their time for the 9th Annual Mixology fundraiser for the Lamorinda Arts Council. "The Mixologist of the Year went to Cynthia Songco from Casa Orinda with a drink titled 'Henny Penny.'" (theorindanews.com)
