- Brentwood police report that the Grinch has been reformed. After having been arrested twice in two days for trying to steal Christmas, once in Pittsburg and once in Pleasant Hill, he's now living comfortably in Brentwood. "The Brentwood Police even gave him hot chocolate and had a party called 'Hot Cocoa with the Grinch.'" (Claycord.com)
- The National School Public Relations Association named Mt. Diablo Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Adam Clark a "2022 Superintendent to Watch." He joins an elite group of just 24 supervisors nationwide who received the honor. (Pioneer Publishers)
- The City of Martinez is hosting a town hall meeting to discuss recent events related to the Martinez Refining Company. The meeting will take place on Monday, December 19 over Zoom. "In addition to participation from Martinez Mayor Brianne Zorn and District 5 County Supervisor Federal Glover – several local government agencies and MRC will be attending." (Contra Costa News)
- Cindy Silva was selected to serve as Walnut Creek mayor for the coming year. Silva was sworn in at the City Council meeting on December 12. Councilmember Loella Haskew was selected as the Mayor Pro Tem and sworn in during the same ceremony. (Contra Costa News)
- Outgoing Pleasant Hill Mayor Michael G. Harris took some time to reflect on his tenure in The Pioneer. He says that his three most significant accomplishments were the award-winning Community Service Day, the new Pleasant Hill Library and improvements in the health and safety of the citizens of Pleasant Hill.

- The Grand Community Chanukah Festival takes place at Downtown City Park in Brentwood this afternoon. (4:30 PM)

- "At its Dec. 13, 2022 meeting, the Concord City Council announced recruitments for openings on several City boards and commissions.... Applications are due to the City Clerk by Friday, Jan. 20, 2023, at 5:00 p.m."
- "All boys and girls ages 8 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. Age eligibility is determined by the age of the contestant as of January 1, 2023. Proof of age is required (please bring a copy of your birth certificate). The competitions will be held on January 13, 2023, at Giovannoni Parish Center, 21 East 15th St., Antioch." (Antioch Herald)
- "Beat seasonal stress with our Frosty Fidos (aka Paws to Read therapy dogs). Read them a story, do a craft, play some bingo. There might even be a sing-a-long. Drop-in, no reservations needed." The Holidawgs event will be held at the Orinda Library on December 22.
