BREAKING: The collision happened at about 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA -- A Brentwood woman died at the scene of a two-vehicle collision Tuesday night on Highway 4 near Concord, according to the California Highway Patrol. The collision on eastbound Highway 4 at Solano Way was reported at 10:25 p.m. and involved a red Honda HR-V and a flatbed truck, CHP Officer Brandon Correia stated in a news release.

Responding CHP and emergency personnel found that the Honda crossover SUV had collided with the back of the truck, which was on the south shoulder, Correia said.

"The female driver of the Honda tragically did not survive the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene," he said.

CHP's initial investigation of the crash revealed that the 24-year-old woman -- whose name was not released Wednesday afternoon -- was traveling alone in her Honda eastbound on Highway 4, partially within the south shoulder, when she collided with the International 4700 flatbed truck, which was stopped in the shoulder area, Correia said.

The truck was not occupied at the time of the collision but its driver, who was nearby, called 911 and remained at the scene, Correia said.
