Here are the top stories today in Concord:
- Just when you thought it was safe to go outside, another atmospheric river is slamming into the Bay Area. The worst of the weather is expected today. The rain will lighter than past storms, but the wind is expected to be the real threat. After this storm dies down, the next one is on its heels coming through tomorrow and possibly Thursday. Batten down the hatches, yet again, Concord! (Claycord.com)
- At low tide along the Martinez shoreline, the remains of an old schooner can still be seen. This schooner, called the Forester, was first launched in 1900 and was part of the lumber trade. In 1927 one of the partners bought out the other two and used the schooner as a tidal break for the newly built Carquinez Bridge. Ultimately, the Forester's only master lived out his days on the ship in the Martinez harbor. In 1975 a fire swept through the ship, burning it to the waterline and leaving what you see today. - At approximately 9:45 am on Monday, a car being pursued by police slammed into a home on Port Chicago Highway. Police had backed off the pursuit due to safety concerns just before the incident happened. The suspect tried to flee on foot, allegedly trying to forcibly enter a nearby home. Police were able to intervene and arrest the suspect. (News 24/680)
- Contra Costa County Public Works runs updates on all of the county-maintained roads in unincorporated Contra Costa. Many of the roadways were impacted by the recent (and current) storms. "For road closure updates & other important information: www.contracosta.ca.gov" (Contra Costa News)
