CONCORD, CA — There's a new fire chief in town. In a change-of-command ceremony held Friday in Concord, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District bid farewell to outgoing fire Chief Jeff Carman — retiring after more than five years at the helm — before promoting Deputy Fire Chief Lewis Broschard to the rank of fire chief and officially transferring leadership.

After incoming fire Chief Broschard was "pinned" with his new badge by his wife, Alyce, he was sworn in as the 12th fire chief of ConFire, one of the state's largest fire districts.

Contra Costa County First District Supervisor John Gioia and Fourth District Supervisor Karen Mitchoff were among those on hand for the occasion.
