City Of Concord Closes Open Spaces Sept. 1-6 Amid Excessive Heat Warning

CONCORD, CA — Contra Costa County is under an excessive heat warning as temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees over the Labor Day weekend and beyond, creating dangerous conditions. At the recommendation of the Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ConFire), the City of Concord has closed its open space areas including Lime Ridge Open Space and the open space areas within Newhall Community Park from Thursday, Sept. 1 through Tuesday, Sept. 6.

In addition to the health dangers, extreme high temperatures will increase the risk of fire danger. Closure of the open spaces will protect the public and firefighters, and preserve firefighting resources.

According to ConFire, all of our fires are caused by human activity and are preventable. Please use extreme caution when you must be outdoors to prevent inadvertent wildfires.

• Report ANY fire immediately to 911; don’t assume someone else has reported it.
• Keep a “go bag” ready for you and your family (including pets) in case you need to evacuate.

• Find a “Place to Cool” near you.

The Concord Senior Center (2727 Parkside Circle) will be a designated cooling center during the Labor Day holiday. Its hours are:

• Sept. 1-2: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (hours may be extended if temperatures remain over 100 degrees at 4 p.m.)
• Sept. 3-5: 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
