🌱Clayton Fire Honors First Responders + Concord Smiles!
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

Good morning, Concord! I'm here in your inbox this morning to get you up to speed on everything you need to know about what's going on in town. Here we go...
First, today's weather:
Partial sunshine. High: 83 Low: 60.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top five stories today in Concord:
- Clayton Fire Station No. 11 put hundreds of American flags on its lawn Sunday in recognition of the first responders who lost their lives on 9/11. According to Claycord.com "the memorial, located at 6500 Center Street in Clayton, shows a picture and brief description of each firefighter and law enforcement officer killed during the attacks on America in 2001." It's definitely an impressive sight. (Claycord.com)
- This is just a fun story! If you're feeling blue, this one is for you. You know that Concord was declared one of the happiest places in the country by Housefresh.com because of all of the Concord smiles they saw on social media, right? Well, the Pioneer wanted to frame those faces for posterity. So it did! It headed out to Music and Market the other day and put a Pioneer frame around faces of smiling people. Get your smile on while you take a look at your neighbors showing off theirs! (Pioneer Publishers)
- In a closed session on Tuesday, the Antioch City Council will again discuss the appointment of a City Manager. This is the second time in less than a month that the Council will discuss this appointment. Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe said he was appointing Cornelius Johnson officially city manager at a press conference, but the Council has taken no action on that appointment, to date. It is unclear whether Johnson will receive the appointment on Tuesday. Johnson was appointed city of Antioch interim city manager in November of 2021 in a 3-2 vote after the retirement of then-City Manager Ron Bernal. (East County Today)
- A local Orinda author has published his first cookbook. It's called "The Cook You Want to Be: Everyday Recipes to Impress." I love the idea of the book because in the author, Andy Baraghani's words, "There are so many great cookbooks, but many of them take the authoritarian approach to cooking. I want to help readers think about and develop their own personal cooking styles." That's exactly why I don't like recipes! They tell you exactly what to do. I love that Baraghani's book allows the cook to create. Perfect. (The Orinda News)
- The California Attorney General is taking a look at a ruling by Contra Costa County DA Diane Becton. "A decision by Becton's office not to file charges against officers involved in restraining an Antioch man who later died will be reviewed by California Attorney General Rob Bonta's office," according to danvillsanramon.com. Angelo Quinto was suffering a mental health crisis in December 2020, when Antioch PD responded. The policemen restrained Quinto. Quinto later died at the hospital. Becton declined to file charges, saying that the cause of death was due to drug intoxication. His family disagreed and said they believe the DA is engaging in a coverup.
