Here are the top five stories today in Concord:
- Concord Police are investigating what appears to be a Thursday evening attempted robbery in downtown Concord, according to witnesses. One witness, Dakota Blackwolffe, explains what occurred: "Transient male (suspect) tried robbing the victim in Todos Santos for his bike. The suspect shot the victim 3 times with the gun which turns out to be an airsoft gun." It's currently unknown if anyone was injured, and no further details are available at this time. (Claycord.com)
- Among the many shooting accomplishments of Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry is his historically excellent free throw shooting. However, the three-time NBA World Champion has nothing on Clayton 11-year-old Jackson Ramirez who made 50 out of 50 attempts to win the most recent Elks Hoop Shoot National Championship. And young Jackson is back at today in Modesto when he takes the second step as he attempts to win another national title in the district competition. Ramirez last entered the 2019-20 Hoop Shoot that was interrupted in March 2020 at the National finals level by the COVID-19 outbreak. It was not until last year that a virtual national final was held. Jackson Ramirez did his shooting at Elevate Basketball Performance training center in Concord on April 1. The Clayton boy canned all 25 free throws, but so did one other finalist. That necessitated all 12 finalists attempting another 25 free throws. This time the Clayton sharpshooter was again perfect while the next closest finalist missed once! (Pioneer Publishers)
- A student was exposed to COVID-19 at school, what's next? Well ... darned if I know. See if you can figure it out from this flowchart from the Contra Costa Health Department. I hope the school administrators also have an engineering degree if they're supposed to figure this thing out. (Claycord.com)
- Victims of the recent rash of catalytic converter thefts in the 24/680 corridor said they were first tipped that their vehicle was under attack when they heard the sound of a reciprocating saw at work under their vehicle. A few nights ago, Walnut Creek patrol officers on the graveyard shift were signaled by a license plate reader that converter thieves were in the area. Officers located a black Lincoln Navigator driving near Oak and Walden roads and stopped it, detaining three people inside and searching the car allegedly finding tell-tale saws and extra blades. The trio were arrested and sent to the Martinez Detention Facility. (News 24/680)
- At 5:30 am Friday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of a big rig vehicle crash on Highway 4 in the City of Brentwood. Three people sustained minor injuries and a trailer was off the roadway. The incident did not block traffic, however, delays were expected as crews worked the incident. (East County Today)
