(Patch Media)

Hi, all! I'm back in your inbox this morning with your fresh edition of the Concord Patch newsletter. Here's everything you need to know that's happening in the community today, including:

  • U.S. Rep. Mark DeSaulnier recently visited Diablo Valley College.
  • Dublin is looking to hire people with developmental disabilities.
  • The Concord City News is out!

But first, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 63 Low: 37.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our readers to local businesses they need to know. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. The Pleasant Hill City Council is considering changing at-large elections to by-district elections. A lawsuit was filed, claiming lack of compliance with the California Voting Rights Act. Many other cities have switched to by-district elections to ensure compliance. Pleasant Hill scheduled two Zoom meetings for voters who are interested in understanding the potential impacts of changing to the new system of voting. "Helen Hutchison, the former President of the League of Women Voters of California, will cover how the lawsuit could affect residents of Pleasant Hill... and how to advocate for districting best practices during City Council Meetings." (Patch)
  2. Diablo Valley College recently hosted U.S. Rep. Mark DeSaulnier of Concord at both of its campuses. His visit was a celebration of "funding aimed at reducing educational costs for students that was recently secured in Congress." (danvillesanramon.com)
  3. The City of Dublin is looking to hire 15 individuals with developmental disabilities over the next 18 months, to staff positions in the Parks and Community Services Department. The city will work with Futures Explored, "a Concord-based organization that advocates for people with disabilities throughout the Bay Area" to find the talent needed to fill these positions.(Patch)
  4. The Mount Diablo Interpretive Association is raising money to replace a portable trailer with a newly constructed building to welcome visitors at the Mitchell Canyon entrance to the park. The group has been raising funds since last fall and indicatesthat it's about a quarter of the way to the goal of $3 million. "The new 1,500-square-foot education center would incorporate a large outdoor pavilion and expanded indoor space to house permanent and rotating exhibits. " (Claycord.com)
  5. Local boy makes good! A longtime Clayton resident and graduate of De La Salle High School took home an Emmy! "TJ Brassil was awarded a 2021-22 Sports Emmy Award for his work as an associate producer for NBC Sports at the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games." Brassil won as part of the production staff for Tokyo Gold hosted by Rich Eisen. (Pioneer Publishers)
