🌱Hampton Inn Going Up On Clayton Road + Improv Hitchcock At Lesher

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

(Patch Media)

Hello, Concord! I'm here in your inbox this morning to tell you everything you need to know about what's going on around town. Today's briefing includes news about...

  • Patch pulls together all of the best events of the season in and around Concord
  • A Contra Costa woman purloined some pretty famous names in an alleged attempt at unemployment benefits fraud.
  • Learn the "ins and outs" of the college admissions process with the Rotary Club of Moraga.

But first, today's weather:

Times of clouds and sun. High: 77 Low: 57.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. Patch rounds up all of the fun of the season just for you. "Find trick-or-treat trails, Dia de los Muertos celebrations, fall fests, haunted houses, corn mazes, over-the-top pumpkin patches and more extravaganzas" around the Concord area. Happy Halloween! (Concord Patch)
  2. A Contra Costa woman was arrested on suspicion of stealing identities, and even more interesting are the identities she allegedly chose to steal. Both are notorious murderers here in California. The first is Scott Peterson, known for being convicted of killing his wife and unborn son. Cary Stayner, convicted of murder of several tourists and a park worker in Yosemite, is the other identity that she stole. Both alleged thefts were to fraudulently collect unemployment benefits. (CBS Sacramento via MSN)
  3. Contra Costa County is getting funding to help us combat the issue of Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (DUID). The County Office of the Sheriff Forensic Services Division was awarded a grant of $237,500 to help in the effort. This money will be used for "purchasing required testing supplies, replacing equipment, and acquiring validation services to develop a comprehensive drug confirmation method." (Claycord.com)
  4. Have you seen the construction on the corner of Clayton Road and Market Street in Concord? It's going to be an 86-room Hilton Hampton Inn hotel. The parcel has bounced around a bit, first having been owned by the city, next, it was approved to be a Chevron station, but, ultimately, it looks like we're going to get a new hotel. (Claycord.com)
  5. "Spontaneous Hitchcock: An Improvised Thriller in the Style of the Master of Suspense!" is happening at the Lesher Center in Walnut Creek, and it sounds like a hoot! According to the artistic director, "this hysterical homage to Sir Alfred Hitchcock — completely improvised and all based on audience suggestions — will keep you in stitches from the first creaking floorboard to the final shovel of dirt." I'm not usually a fan of the Halloween genre, but this is one "suspense thriller" I could get behind. It's playing through October 30. (Pioneer Publishers)

Today in Concord:

  • The Butlers are hitting the stage at Retro Junkie in Walnut Creek. (7:00 PM)
  • Tickets are still available for Phil Ackerly - Master Magician at the California Magic Club in Martinez. Hurry! These shows usually sell out. (7:30 PM)
  • Paint Lunar Love at the late night class at Painting with a Twist in Pleasant Hill. (8:00 PM)

From my notebook:

  • Vitas Hospice presents Seniors and Depression at the Antioch Senior Center on Oct. 26. You'll learn how to help a loved one who may be suffering from depression.
  • You know how Amazon sometimes sends you personalized picks? Well, the Contra Costa Library will do the same thing for you, based on your specific inputs! They'll send you a list of 5 titles picked just for you after you fill out the form at this link.
  • The Rotary Club of Moraga presents "The Ins & Outs of the College Admission Process." The event takes place on Tuesday, November 1 at the Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church. You're invited to send questions ahead of time for the Q&A portion of the program.
