Here are the top stories in Concord today:
- An at-risk boy in Concord went missing Saturday evening, police said on Twitter. The tweet was sent at 7:11 p.m., and in a matter of minutes, Concord police announced on 7:28 p.m. they located the boy thanks to the Concord Police Department's drone program. The drones helped officers locate the boy and bring him back to safety. (KRON4)
- Thanks to a very generous donation, the Food Bank Of Contra Costa & Solano has launched the '2 Million Meal Challenge.' The donation was for $500,000 matching funds for all funds donated between now and May 31, 2022. If there is a full match, and the food bank receives the full $1M, that would serve 2 million meals for Contra Costa and Solano counties. (Claycord.com)
- A two-alarm fire that engulfed several apartments in Antioch at Auto Center and Sycamore Drives on Friday night caused at least 33 people to be evacuated from their homes. The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District notified the public about the fire at 8:42 p.m. on its Twitter account, and crews at the scene were able to extinguish the blaze in about 40 minutes. No injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. (Concord News Journal)
- On February 9, 2022, The Orinda Woman's Club (OWC) presented the Assistance League Diablo Valley with a check for $21,500 from proceeds from its Festival of Trees. The Assistance League will use the funds for its Operation School Bell – Common Threads program, which provides clothing for homeless high school students in three school districts in Contra Costa County. In addition to the Assistance League Diablo Valley, another $21,500 from the Festival of Trees event will provide educational grants to other deserving non-profits in the area. (The Orinda News)
- San Ramon resident and Gale Ranch student Abir Bhatia is among 14 remaining contestants in the eighth season of 'MasterChef Junior.' As a contestant on the current season of Fox's show, Bhatia's attraction to vibrant, fresh foods has come to be part of his signature style as a budding young chef showcased on network TV on Thursday nights. "I'm definitely geared towards Mediterranean and Middle Eastern foods because they have a lot of bold flavors and fresh ingredients," Bhatia said. Bhatia and the 13 other remaining contestants will be back on Fox for the third episode of the show's eighth season at 8 p.m. this Thursday, where the competition for the $100,000 prize and title will continue. - Orinda Rotary and the City of Orinda hosts its annual Spring Egg Hunt, Saturday, April 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Orinda Community Center Park at the play field area across from Rite Aid on Orinda Way. This special event is geared for toddlers, Kindergartners, first and second graders. Prizes, treats and photos with the White Bunny will be available from 10:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Egg Hunt starts promptly at 11 a.m.
