Mostly sunny and warm. High: 87 Low: 55.
Here are the top stories today in Concord:
- The Contra Costa Board of Supervisors opened a time capsule that was placed in the old administration building on September 26, 1964, making it 58 years old. Some of the items they found in it were predictions from the City of Martinez, a copy of the special edition dedication of the Administration Building and instructions on how to operate a push-button phone! The Supervisors then placed a new time capsule in a vault at the new administration building at 1025 Escobar Street, which will be opened in 2072. (Claycord.com)
- The Concord Police Department has received a $175,000 grant from the Office of Traffic Safety. With this grant money, the Concord PD will be able to increase patrols and provide traffic safety programs for the community. (Claycord.com)
- Have you ever seen a dog smile? Click on this Pioneer link and you'll see one of the cutest smiling mutt mugs I've ever seen. Why is this cutie smiling? Because last weekend's Oktoberfest in Clayton brought them to the Rodie's Feed & Pet Supply booth for some paw- cooling pools, treats for the pups and beer for owners. (Pioneer Publishers)
- This is the stuff of nightmares, but with a happy ending. A woman's car went over the embankment off Pinehurst Road west of Canyon early Friday morning around 2:15 a.m. She was able to call first responders and tell them what happened, but the roadway is winding, the night was dark and the position of the car made it difficult to see. Apparently, the woman could hear the emergency crews trying to locate her, but she couldn't signal them due to the airbag deployment. Thankfully, she eventually was rescued, at about 3:00 a.m. and taken to an area hospital for treatment. (News 24/680)
- Kenneth David Mcisaac, 31, of Lafayette, was arraigned on Thursday in Martinez on charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment by violence, second-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, criminal threats and child abuse. Mcisaac allegedly held victims hostage for over five hours during a home invasion incident on September 24. One of the victims was able to break free and overpower Mcisaac before calling 911. On September 27, he was arrested and booked into the West County Detention Facility, where he remains in custody. (News 24/680)
