  1. Get out those blankets, Concord! It's going to be a cold start to the week. A cold front is supposed to move in tonight and stick around until at least Wednesday. Freezing temperatures are possible overnight tonight. "Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly." (Concord Patch)
  2. An assistant at the Atria Walnut Creek assisted living center was charged with one count of elder or dependent adult abuse resulting in death. Lateshia Sherise Starling had custody of the now-deceased Constantine Albert Canoun when he allegedly ingested cleaning fluid, leading to his death. (Claycord.com)
  3. The Antioch Police published an open letter in reaction to the release of video in the death of Tyre Nichols in Memphis, Tennessee. In it, the Antioch chief of police says, "What I saw in the video released yesterday is not only contrary to the mission of law enforcement officers to preserve life but goes against basic human values." He goes on to express his grief over the situation and offer his prayers for justice in the case. (Contra Costa News)
  4. Wow! Check out the cascade that formed when Orinda Country Club's Lake Cascade reached full capacity! It runs right under the country club swimming pool. (theorindanews.com)
  5. Concord Police arrested two as part of a DUI enforcement effort on Friday, January 27. Results were similar to the last few enforcement efforts. "Concord Police Department will be holding a series of DUI enforcement patrols throughout the year to keep our roadways safe." (Contra Costa News)
