🌱 Concord All Stars! + Antioch People's Choice Award Winners

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

(Patch Media)

Morning, Concord. I'm here with your fresh copy of the Concord Daily, filled with all the local information you need to know right now. Here we go...

First, today's weather:

Sunny. High: 89 Low: 59.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. The State Board of Education voted unanimously to deny a petition to create a new unified school district in the Northgate area of Walnut Creek. A county supervisor and 25 parents, educators and others opposed to the new district called in to the State Board meeting. There we no callers in support of the new district. "Settling this issue once and for all means that we can now unite in working together for an excellent education for all," said MDUSD Board Member Cherise Khaund. (Claycord.com)
  2. Three Concord area high school baseball players have made the MaxPreps California All Star Team. Congratulations to Anthony Martinez from De La Salle, Tyler Wood from De La Salle and Ryder Helfrick from Clayton Valley Charter! (MaxPreps)
  3. By the end of this month, we should be able to hike all of the Lime Ridge Trails, again. Trails have been closed since March as PG&E works to bury power lines in the region as part of its fire risk reduction program. Crews are almost done! Trails will reopen soon. The trail closures include portions of the Paraiso Trail, Ohlone Trail and the Timberleaf Trail. For your safety, please avoid this area until the trails are reopened. (Claycord.com)
  4. From the desk of Mayor Dominic Aliano: "Organic waste such as food scraps, yard trimmings, paper and cardboard make up most of the landfill material in California. When dumped into the landfill, this material releases methane – resulting in a disastrous effect on our environment. To take a significant step toward combatting climate change, the state Legislature has been working for several years to implement organics recycling laws that will be phased in over the next two years, with the goal of achieving a 75% reduction in the statewide disposal of organic waste." Read about his take on the programs and what Concord can do to support environmental stewardship in this article from The Pioneer. (Pioneer Publishers)
  5. The votes are in!! See who was voted Best Businesses in 2021 in the Antioch People's Choice Awards! Spoiler alert. Even though I worked at Round Table Pizza for years, Skipolini's was always my favorite and it took first place! Congrats, Skip! (Antioch Herald)
