Here are the top five stories in Concord today:
- The Concord City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved spending up to $789,187 for 65 license plate-reading cameras. The data will be controlled by the Concord Police Department. The system will analyze such metrics as the car make and model, the license plate number and the color of the vehicle - all based on the image, not registration data. The information will help local police add significant investigative options to help solve and deter crime. (Bay City News)
- Looking forward to to watching De La Salle take on Serra on Friday, Sept. 2, on ESPNU, but you're not sure how to find it? You can watch thousands of high school football games on the NFHS Network, including the De La Salle/Serra game. (Scorebook Live)
- About 5,000 PG&E customers in Concord and Walnut Creek lost power Wednesday night. PG&E is still investigating the cause of the power outage. Power was restored just after 1 a.m. (Claycord.com)
- Shortly before 5 a.m. Thursday morning, a crash was reported on Bollinger Canyon Road in San Ramon. The accident closed the roadway between Chantarella Drive and Alcosta Boulevard. The two drivers were taken to a local trauma center. The extent of their injuries was not known at the time of this writing. (News 24/680)
- Contra Costa County has rescinded their vaccine mandate for COVID-19 for first responders and medical personnel. The order had been in effect for just over a year. The removal of the order is effective immediately. "While the COVID-19 vaccines and boosters remain excellent tools for substantially reducing the risk of severe disease and death, as a result of the mutations, the protection against infection and transmission offered by the current COVID-19 vaccines has diminished," county health officer Dr. Ori Tzvieli said. "As a result, both vaccinated and unvaccinated people are becoming infected with current circulating strains of the virus." (Claycord.com)
