Here are the top five stories today in Concord:
- Hang on to your wallet! Officials are cracking down on unpaid bridge tolls and late fees on Bay Area bridges. People with outstanding fees to their name are expected to receive notices in the mail soon. "The Bay Area Toll Authority should have identified these drivers sooner to provide earlier notice and create payment plan options," State Assemblymember Phil Ting, D-San Francisco, said. - Did you head out to the Art Jam at Todos Santos Plaza this past weekend? If not, here are a few awesome pictures of the event for you, courtesy of The Pioneer. For a schedule of the upcoming week's Create Concord events and more information on the artists go to VisitConcord.com (Pioneer Publishers)
- Contra Costa County voters kept the five main incumbents in place in the June 7 election. Sheriff David Livingston, County Assessor Gus Kramer, District Attorney Diana Becton, Auditor-Controller Robert Campbell and Clerk-Recorder Kristin Braun Connelly all held onto their jobs. After all mail-in and absentee ballots were counted, just over 26 percent of registered voters in Contra Costa County turned out for the vote. (Pioneer Publishers)
- Lamorinda Bees teamed up with Mount Diablo Beekeepers Association to give folks a bee-to-honey demonstration during an event on June 4, held in the Community Room of the Moraga Library. Lamorinda Bees were represented by Rosalind Bassett, her son Rhys Pullen (a San Diego State University student), daughter Sloan Pullen (a Campolindo High School student) and husband Mark Pullen. Bassett encourages any interested local high school students to join Lamorinda Bees by emailing her at: rbassett@mvpctoday.org. Spieth can be reached through www.diablobees.org or by calling (925) 330-7032. (lamorindaweekly.com)
- Shoppers attempting to enter the Whole Foods store at 3502 Mt. Diablo Boulevard shortly after 1 p.m. were turned back by police warning of a potential "man with a gun" inside the store. News 24/680 believes it was actually the result of police contact with a man near the rear of the store. The suspect was hit with a taser, which, apparently de-escalated the situation. (News 24/680)
