Good morning, hello! I'm back in your inbox this morning with your fresh edition of the Concord Daily. Here's all the local news you need to know right now, including:

  • A fire in San Ramon sent the residents fleeing, but fortunately, while it was messy, no injuries were reported
  • East Bay Regional Parks will enter an option agreement to purchase the Finley Road Ranch property possibly opening up more recreational options in Riggs Canyon
  • Beware of Clayton Road closures this weekend! Choose an alternate route.

Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. Looking for more information about local elections? Contra Costa County voters can watch the local "Election Preview" voter education forums on Contra Costa TV. The Election Preview videos will also be available online on the Contra Costa Television YouTube channel. (Contra Costa Herald). Also, join the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, for the Concord Candidates' Forum featuring representatives running for City Council in Districts 1 and 5, as well as City Treasurer. The forum will take place at the Concord City Council Chambers - Concord Civic Center located at 1950 Parkside Drive. The forum will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and is free and open to the public. (Facebook)
  2. Two men have been arrested in connection with the September 9 shooting in Pleasant Oaks Park. According to Pleasant Hill Police, when officers arrived on scene they located several juveniles who said they had been shot at by two unknown suspects who fled in a black sedan. "Investigative leads led to the identification of Saul Jimenez of Antioch as a suspect." and on September 12, police filed felony charges against Jimenez for the shooting. Then, "during the ongoing investigation, Pleasant Hill Police detectives identified the second shooting suspect, Alexander Martinez-Nacurena, and obtained search and arrest warrants for him as well." On September 21, Martinez-Nacurena was taken into custody as a second shooting suspect. Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Pleasant Hill Police Department Investigations Bureau at (925) 288-4630. (Claycord.com)
  3. The East Bay Regional Park District Board of Directors has authorized entering into an option agreement to purchase the Finley Road Ranch property. The site would be used as a "staging area" for Riggs Canyon, a remote area at the edge of Mt Diablo. This would improve recreational access to the canyon. According to Claycord.com, "The Park District paid $200,000 for the option to purchase the property, which may be acquired for $11.4 million. The district has until November 22, 2022, to exercise the purchase option, but may extend the option through March 24, 2023, for an additional $200,000 payment." (Claycord.com)
  4. It was a scary situation on St. Pierre Court in San Ramon Wednesday, as a fast moving fire quickly engulfed a garage and encroached upon the main residence there. The residents were able to quickly escape the blaze, but the structure sustained major damage before firefighters could bring it under control. So far, no word on what started the fire.   • Construction Alert - The City of Concord will have extended lane closures for two lanes in the eastbound direction along Clayton Road for the Ellis Lake Area Sanitary Sewer Improvements Project. The closures on Clayton Road will be between Pine Street and Ellis Street. The closures will take place this Saturday, Sept. 24 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. (City of Concord, California via Facebook)
  • The Orinda Starlight Village Players present Pygmalion from September 23 through October 1 at the Orinda Community Park Amphitheater.
  • Find some shabby chic treasures and help the Antioch High Band get to Disneyland at their October 1st Yard Sale! The event takes place starting at 8:00 a.m. at the parking lot by the gym at Antioch High.
