Here are the top five stories today in Concord:

  1. Master developer for the Concord Naval Weapons Station project, Concord First Partners, LLC, invites the Concord community to attend the third community meeting via Zoom on Thursday, July 28 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This will be an opportunity to learn more about the Base Reuse Project at the former Concord Naval Weapons Station. The community is also invited to provide feedback and ask questions of the developer. (Pioneer Publishers)
  2. The Marsh peat fire in Pittsburg appears to be extinguished! After two months of smoldering, Con Fire reported that they have "ended flooding today that has, for seven days, with help from CC Water District and the property owner, put some 200 million gallons of water on the Marsh peat fire in Pittsburg. No apparent hotspots or smoke remain, though we continue to monitor for flareups." Two hundred million gallons of water! I can't even fathom that amount. (Contra Costa Herald)
  3. They asked and you answered, Moraga! You like chicken. The owners of Lou's Chicken Shop pop-up have decided to make it a permanent eatery at 376 Park St. What started as an experiment got so popular it will now be part of the Lamorinda restaurant scene. For the time being, Lou's is a take-out/counter-service only establishment with plenty of outdoor seating. The plan is to eventually add indoor dining. (lamorindaweekly.com)
  4. The power was out in Pleasant Hill on Sunday. Traffic lights were out on Gregory Lane and Cleveland Road starting about 9:30 a.m. PG&E workers were on the scene and expected to fix the issue in four to six hours, police said. There was no report as to the cause of the outage. (Claycord.com)
