Here are the top stories today in Concord:
- Isaac White-Carter of Hayward was arrested for the brutal attack on a fast-food worker in Antioch in November. White-Carter allegedly punched the worker in the face several times. Witnesses said the worker was trying to protect an individual who had intellectual disabilities. The assault ultimately left the victim blind in one eye. (Contra Costa Herald)
- The City of Concord may be checking out your green waste. "Beginning this week, an inspector from Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery (MDRR) may be in your neighborhood performing 'lid-flips' and looking into your collection carts at residences and businesses. MDRR is only looking for proper sorting of materials, and may leave outreach information on your carts, including a 'Good Job' or 'Oops' tag, with helpful tips and suggestions." (City of Concord, California via Facebook)
- Look up on Mt. Diablo on December 7 and you'll see the beacon lit for Remembrance Day. The honor of lighting the beacon will go to a survivor of Pearl Harbor. "The Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors, Chapter 5 are pleased to co-sponsor this 59th Annual National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day Beacon Lighting Ceremony with Save Mount Diablo, California State Parks, and California State University, East Bay." All are invited to the ceremony. (Claycord.com)
- Did you make it to the Christmas tree lighting in Antioch? I bet more than a few people stayed away due to the rain. But those of us who prefer to come in out of the rain can still enjoy the festivities, courtesy of the Antioch Herald!
- The former warden at the Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin is on trial for multiple sex offenses the DA says took place at the institution between 2019 and 2021. Ray J. Garcia is the highest ranking of five defendants who prosecutors charged with sex crimes at the institution. If Garcia is convicted on all counts, he could spend at much as 15 years in prison.
