Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. A game-ending hit left a quarterback concussed and a football program "in hot water for the second time in a month." The College Park Falcons were down heading into the last 2 minutes of the game. The opposing team's quarterback took a knee to wait out the last seconds on the clock. That's when a Falcon's player blindsided him with a hard hit that knocked him to the ground with a concussion according to the team's coach DJ Sexton. This came after the Falcon's coach was suspended from the final two games of the season for a blowout win against Ygnacio Valley with a score of 84-0. (Scorebook Live)
  2. The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano in Concord has seen an increase in demand for their services of 100,000 people since this time last year. That's an increase of about 60% at a time when food donations are down and the cost to feed clients is going up. They need your help with donations. "Because we work with local retailers and grocery stores, we have the purchasing power to get certain foods on discount, so no food (gets) wasted. So, every dollar provides at least two meals for people in the community," says Krystine Dinh, the director of communications at the food bank. (KGO-TV)
  3. As of Saturday November 12, Contra Costa County had about 111,000 ballots still to count. Most of those were mail in ballots. It still is not known when all of the ballots will be counted. If you'd like to check the status of your ballot, you may do so here. (Claycord.com)
  4. The Antioch City council will decide on Tuesday whether to enter into a 5 year agreement with ShotSpotter to help police locate gunshots when they happen. Council staff have identified the areas in the city where the most gun related crimes occur and the council will look at two proposals for implementing the technology based on that analysis. "The Antioch City Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the council chambers at 200 H St. The meeting can be seen online at www.antiochca.gov." (Claycord.com)
  5. Einar Gonzalez-Gomez and Ivan Hernandez-Mercado have been charged in connection with a drive-by shooting that happened in Concord. The two were charged with with conspiracy to commit murder and murder in the October 23 incident. Bail was set at $3.75 million for each of the suspects, according to jail records.
