Here are the top five stories today in Concord:
- Here's a milestone none of us wanted to reach: a gallon of gas in Contra Costa County now averages more than $6! Gasbuddy.com can help you find the cheapest gas in Concord. According to Gasbuddy.com, the cheapest price Monday for a gallon of regular gas in Concord was a tie for $5.49 at Costco, 2400 Monument Blvd. and Valero, 3598 Willow Pass Road. The next-cheapest gas prices were: $5.55 at Flyers, 2560 Bates Ave.; $5.59 at World, 3550 Clayton Road; $5.59 at Bonfare, 2800 Grant St.; and $5.59 at Don's Gas & Liquor, 2807 Port Chicago Highway. - The Contra Costa Community College District announced Monday that it will keep indoor mask requirements in place through at least the summer semester. The district will continue to offer in-person, hybrid and fully online classes throughout the summer. (Claycord.com)
- Mt. Diablo High School is granting retroactive diplomas to all students forced to leave school during the WWII "relocation" of Japanese and Japanese Americans. The presentation will take place alongside its Class of 2022 graduation ceremony on May 24. The school expects up to two dozen family members to attend the ceremony. Organizers will hold a small "tailgate" style reception for the families in the parking lot after the graduation. (Pioneer Publishers)
- Danville Mayor Newell Arnerich spoke out against the White Supremacist activities over the weekend. "Our town stands united against racism in any form and any acts that direct harm or hatred toward people based upon race, culture, religion, sexual orientation, gender or disability," he said. - West Nile Virus has made its return to Contra Costa County. The Contra Costa Mosquito & Vector Control District (District) reports the first dead bird of the year that has tested positive for West Nile virus was picked up in an area of Brentwood close to Discovery Bay. To reduce the risk of WNV, the District recommends Contra Costa County residents report dead birds because dead birds are often the first sign of WNV in a particular location. (East County Today)
