Here are the top five stories in Concord today:
- Lucy Goetz, a junior at Concord High School, is organizing a March For Our Lives demonstration against gun violence in Walnut Creek on Saturday. Goetz told Patch that she recently checked to see if there was a march planned for her area and was surprised to see there wasn't one. "So I decided to do something about it," she said in a Monday interview. "More than feeling, a conviction, I saw a need and decided to do what I could. This issue is important to me and the community, and it's time we take a stand." On Saturday, members of the Walnut Creek community will gather at Civic Park to take a stand against gun violence. The march will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 11 a.m. I'm proud of you, Lucy, for finding a positive way to make your voice heard. (Concord Patch)
- The Walnut Creek City Council, on Tuesday, took a look at a plan to build 254 units of senior housing and a 136-bed residential care facility on 9.49 acres in Shadelands business park. The lot is currently zoned commercial. If the use was changed to a residential facility, the zoning would need to be changed to "mixed use." (Claycord.com)
- A Contra Costa County jury has found 44-year-old Taylor Aaron Goode guilty of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of 29-year-old Erick Marshall Ousey near the California Grand Casino in Pacheco on July 5, 2019. Through surveillance footage and witness testimony the jury determined that Goode pursued Ousey repeatedly kicking and punching him and, when Ousey attempted to defend himself, Goode stabbed him with a knife, causing his death at the scene. Goode is facing 35 years to life for Ousey's death. (Claycord.com)
- Aladino's Pizza in Antioch released video of a female who stole their laptop. It's excellent quality footage and the company even has a name for the perpetrator. She goes by Kamilah S on Doordash. If you have any information that could help catch her, Aladino's is asking you to contact the store at Antiochaladinos1324@gmail.com or call (925) 757-6363. (East County Today)
- Per the Pleasant Hill Government page: "Notice is hereby given by the City of Pleasant Hill that the Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on a proposed Zoning Ordinance Amendment related to Urban Lot Splits (PHMC Section 18.20.097) and Two Unit Projects (PHMC Section 18.20.105). The proposed amendment would modify provisions that were implemented as part of an urgency ordinance in response to State Legislation that was passed in 2021 (Senate Bill 9) that allowed lot splits and two unit residential projects ("by-right") on properties that allowed single family residential uses. The commission will review the proposed amendments and make a recommendation to the City Council." The public hearing will be held by the Planning Commission starting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28. (pleasanthillca.org)
