🌱 Concord Housing Element Hearing + Walnut Creek Uncorked!
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

Good morning, everybody! I'm back with your new copy of the Concord Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening locally.
First, today's weather:
Partly sunny and hot. High: 94 Low: 62.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top five stories today in Concord:
- A "substantial weather pattern change" is coming to California this week, UCLA climate scientist Daniel Swain wrote on Twitter. "A prolonged period of significantly hotter temperatures is expected inland, which will be a dramatic shift from recent cool temperatures up north." I guess we've already seen this forecast become a reality, but it's here to stay for a few more days, with a twist! "Additionally, it appears that an early/pre-monsoonal surge will arrive across southern two-thirds of California by mid-week. This will bring a chance of mountain/desert thunderstorms and perhaps even chance of lightning over lower elevations south of I-80. Details are still fuzzy, but there could be some dry-ish lightning over peak drought region," she added. Dry-ish lightning is scary in this drought season. Keep safe, Concord! (SFGATE)
- The Concord City Council will convene a special meeting on Tuesday, June 21 to hear public comment on the draft Housing Element Update, which was released recently for a 30-day review period. The Housing Element is a required component of the city's General Plan. It contains goals, policies and programs to address the housing needs of all Concord residents from 2023 to 2031, including the city's Regional Housing Needs Allocation of 5,073 units. - Local Clayton residents Danielle Andre-Grimsey and her husband Patrick had hoped to open an ice cream shop in time for Fourth of July festivities, but supply chain issues have pushed that opening to later in the summer. "There's no place in Clayton for kids to hang out," a disappointed Andre-Grimsey told The Pioneer last week. "We really want to be that place and we were hoping for this summer." Don't despair, though, it still looks like Sip 'n Sweet will open, maybe as soon as late July or early August, for you to get your fix of ice cream, frogurt and Hawaiian shaved ice. - Police in Moraga took up pursuit of a group of suspected carjackers on Monday near Campolindo High School. The pursuit ended after the stolen vehicle slammed into at least one parked car and came to a halt near Shuey and Rimer drives. The suspects fled on foot to a nearby riverbed. One suspect surrendered to police and a second is still at large. Police are unsure if there are more suspects at large in the case. (News 24/680)
- El Burro Veloz Taco Bar is a new Mexican restaurant located in the Williamson Ranch Plaza near Walmart and Fellowship Church at 4815 Lone Tree Way. The restaurant was named after the owner's grandfather who was nicknamed "Veloz." His grandfather delivered food that his grandmother had made to nearby factory workers in Mexico. Taste the recipes handed down through the family at their new restaurant! (East County Today)
