🌱 Concord Jazz Festival Kicks Off + DeSaulnier Fire Safety Town Hall
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

Hello, friends. It's me, Jeri Karges, your host of the Concord Daily — here to tell you all the most important things happening in town.
First, today's weather:
Partly sunny. High: 91 Low: 62.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top stories today in Concord:
- Oakland librarian, Sharon McKellar, collects all the things people leave in their library books from love notes to pictures to old sayings on napkins. Her bin has a treasure trove of personal thoughts that she has collected over the years. She posts them online, but nobody has ever claimed one. That is, until now. Jamee Longacre, from Concord, was looking through some of the collection and a green sticky note caught her eye. She recognized her writing on one of the notes. It surprised her, because she had never been to a library in Oakland, but it was distinctively hers. "I just kind of giggled to myself," Longacre said, when she realized the note was her own. She reached out to McKellar to claim it. It's a fun story of a touch from the past. Some of the remnants found are funny and some are poignant and all tell of a point in the past in someone's life. Neat! (NPR)
- A Dublin woman was killed as she was walking in the 6200 block of Dougherty Road on Sunday night. The driver that hit her was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. News 24/680 reported that "Police said Roni Gage, 39, was hit by a man, later identified as Giovanni Fissore, 42, as she was walking in the area at approximately 10 p.m. Fissore remained at the scene following the collision." Fissore was subsequently arrested. (News 24/680)
- Contra Costa's Holistic Intervention Partnership is about to get a $6M infusion of cash. The Holistic Intervention Program is targeted at providing support to people involved in the criminal justice system to improve outcomes for residents who struggle with mental illness and homelessness. According to East County Today "The Contra Costa County Office of the Public Defender and the Contra Costa County Health, Housing, and Homeless Services Department have secured a $6 million grant from the California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) to dramatically expand the Holistic Intervention Partnership (HIP) over the next three years." "We are so grateful that, with this state grant, we will be able to expand access to critical legal, housing, mental health and reentry services to support those involved in our criminal legal system and ensure that they have the resources that they need in order to be successful in our community," said Chief Public Defender Ellen McDonnell. - Antioch Police Officer Marcotte observed an individual enter JJ's Fish and Chicken with a satchel. A short time later, the officer observed a second individual exit the restaurant with the same satchel. That individual has been identified as Rodney Toriano Green. When Officer Marcotte made contact with Green, he found a loaded pistol in the satchel. The pistol was found to be stolen out of Las Vegas. The officer arrested Green on several charges. The man who brought the satchel into the restaurant left on foot and has not been identified. (Antioch Herald)
