The Concord Library serves meals this summer to combat hunger and the summer nutrition gap
Contra Costa County Library and the Mt. Diablo Unified School District are partnering to serve summer meals at the Concord Library

Many children face nutrient deficiencies when school closes for the summer break. Lunch at the Library is part of a statewide collaboration between the California Library Association (CLA) and the California Summer Meal Coalition to unite libraries and summer meal providers and keep kids healthy and engaged when school is out.
This is our second year for Lunch in the Library at the Concord Library and we are happy to report that the program has been very successful. Anyone 0-18 years old will receive a FREE lunch in the library from June 21st -July 15th this summer from 1pm-2pm.
Kimberli Buckley, Senior Community Library Manager for the Concord Library piloted the first Lunch at the Library program in Contra Costa County talks about her experience with Lunch at the Library, “I’ve seen the difference this program can make in children’s lives. I saw a child almost in tears thanking the library staff for his summer lunch. It was a very touching moment and proves that the summer lunch program is an incredible way for the library to reach out to the children and teens in the community. Libraries offer so much more than just traditional book-learning.”
