Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. Concord native Sonya Eddy, best known as head nurse Epiphany Johnson on TV's General Hospital, died on Monday. TMZ reports the cause of death was complications from a scheduled surgery. "The lights in the hub of the nurse's station will now be a little dimmer, but her spirit and light will live on in both the show and our set," General Hospital Executive Producer Frank Valentini tweeted Tuesday. (Concord Patch)
  2. Last weekend the Clayton Valley Dance Academy was burglarized. The thieves took electronics and dance equipment, among other things. The haul amounted to thousands of dollars worth of goods that the small business is struggling to replace. A GoFundMe account was created by a parent of one of the young dancers who attends the academy. "This business and business owner has done so much for the community and the children throughout the years, so if you can support her with even a dollar, that would be much appreciated." (Claycord.com)
  3. The developer has broken ground on the first affordable housing project in Concord in 20 years. The project will be on Galindo Street, across from the Concord Police Department. "Rick Judd Commons at 1315 Galindo Street will provide 62 new affordable apartments for small families and individuals in an amenity and transit rich location." (Contra Costa News)
  4. K9 Officer Perro joined the Antioch police force less than a week ago and already made his first drug bust! In fact, Officer Perro's debut takedown was on day two of his tenure, when he found firearms, cash and several pounds of suspected narcotics in a vehicle that he and his partner stopped. Nice work, Officer Perro! (Antioch Herald)
