Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. The Concord City Council voted 3-2 to reject the Term Sheet from Concord First Partners for the Naval Base Reuse project. That means other developers can now submit proposals to the city for the site. This is the second time a developer has not met city demands for the site and the development has gone back to the submission process. (Claycord.com)
  2. Stanley Middle School principal Nikki Chaplan was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation. The investigation is looking into a series of articles that were published by the Mercury News, bringing to light questions about how much Ms. Chaplan knew about allegations against a San Ramon School District teacher who was accused of sexual abuse of two minors. Ms. Chaplan worked in the San Ramon district at the time. (News 24/680)
  3. Orinda has a new mayor, Inga Miller. She will lead a first-ever all-female city council. As leader, she said her priorities are "to maximize the benefits of Measure R funds — a 1% sales tax used for wildfire prevention, emergency preparedness and other essential city services — and renovating Orinda's downtown." Read more about what she hopes to accomplish, in this interview by theorindanews.com.
  4. Brentwood Unified's California League of Schools Educators of the year are (drum roll, please!) Katherine Daniels and Helen Calaway. Daniels is a counselor at Edna Hill Middle School and Calaway teaches special education at Adams Middle School. (Contra Costa News)
  5. Brentwood Police, Antioch Police and neighbors alike are getting tired of the illegal sideshows taking place on our streets. Antioch Police, in cooperation with Brentwood PD, sent out a special task force on Saturday night to shut down the sideshows in the 5800 block of Tone Tree Way in Antioch. "We have a zero tolerance approach to this activity and will be stopping vehicles, towing vehicles, and doing smog inspections," said a message from Antioch Police. (Claycord.com)

  • With all of the information (and misinformation) out there about how to combat COVID-19, RSV, MPox and Influenza, now is a terrific time to hear from an expert. Dr. Margaret Liu is scheduled for the Feb. 3 First Friday Forum in Orinda. "Liu is a board member and President Emerita of the International Society for Vaccines and an Adjunct Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at UCSF." (theorindanews.com)
