The Conta Costa County Sheriff-Coroner's Office identified the person killed as Maricarmen Leon, 27, of Discovery Bay.

By Tuesday morning, more than $15,000 has been donated toward funeral costs for Leon, whose loved ones described as "an amazing daughter, sister, cousin, and friend" who was "constantly smiling and laughing."

"She was following her dreams at Kaiser as a phlebotomist, where she stood out as a hard worker who always gave her all," according to a GoFundMe page. "We hope to raise money and support the Leon family during this difficult time by helping the family cover funeral costs and ease the pain of losing such a beloved family member. Please keep the family in your prayers."

Day was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, as well as gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. She was booked into the Contra Costa County jail in Martinez and her bail was set at $300,000, police said.

The Walnut Creek Police Department planned to present the case to the District Attorney's Office this week for review, and asked anyone with information related to the investigation to call Walnut Creek PD Dispatch at 925-935-6400.
